A lot of people have this question, Is Mushroom a vegetable?
Some vegetarians even avoid eating mushrooms as they consider it to be a non-vegetarian.
I can understand why the question arises. They are one of the foods, which can be cooked in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cooking methods. It's one of those fleshy, thick foods, which is very sumptuous and filling, it provides good amount of protein with very less fat.
Why I talk about mushrooms, you may ask. Well, it was supposed to be the build up for the mushroom recipe, am about to write about. So let me jump right in.
I have named it "Mushroom mania" (Just being fancy). It's an Indian style mushroom curry with not much of a twist.
I had this post in development for quite a long time now. I believe it's high time i get it out and post it. we live in a world of social media now, you could share every bit of information that you find, to a large number of people immediately. people who don't even know you can share that very information to others and it can get spread like wild fire in a matter of hours.Sharing has created viral medias, sensationalized news issues, even triggered revolution in some countries. so that is a great power for a common man and ...

"With great power comes great responsibility" (Quoted in Spiderman by Stan Lee).

Just because i quoted Spiderman, it doesn't literally mean you need to become a superhero and fight crimes on Facebook. But, Are you being responsible on Facebook while sharing information ? Of course, here i am not talking about your personal information (that's obviously your personal responsibility), I mean a larger level of sharing factual information. information that could be shared and read by many others, and could have an impact on an individual or a society.

Here are a few aspects of shared information which I believe is irresponsible and needs to be addressed.

1. Fake and False Information :
There is an enormous amount of False information being shared everyday by a lot of people in form of picture messages, Links and posts. A lot of those are fake facts created by users who just want to get attention to their groups or profiles. These messages and posts vary in topics from sports, politics to even religion. Some of the information I've seen look outright fake and completely false, but still there are plenty of people who share it and spread it, like it's a true fact.
Let me give you some examples I've seen. These were shared by plenty of people, each of these posts had thousands of shares. ( You may disprove me, if I have got it wrong)

a. Letter from Swiss bank to Indian Government (fake) :
This is a picture message that lists out the amount of money, a lot of politicians have in their Swiss bank accounts, It even has the Swiss bank seal on it. However, It's a complete fake document.
Why? - Swiss bank corporation's main feature is that it provides "confidentiality, security and discretion" to all it's account holders. It is completely exempt from extradition laws, which means that any country or government cannot demand information of it's clients or their assets from the bank, neither will the bank provide them(1).

Common sense question - why would all the politicians hide their black money in Swiss bank if it's going to let out all the details to the government agencies?

b. "imitinef mercilet" - The cure for blood cancer(misleading) :
The message that says this 'cure for cancer' drug is available in Adyar Cancer Institute in Chennai, it's free and contact them for details. False misleading information, It's not a cure for blood cancer, rather a drug (also called Imatinib mesylate) to treat blood cancer and It's not Free. It costs $32,000 for a year(2).
Why? Cancer research is going on in full scale all around the globe, there are drugs to treat blood cancer, not completely cure it. However, there are certain forms of cancer for which cure has been found, but they have all been a global level news feature. Trust me, when an actual cure for blood cancer comes you'd definitely come to know.

Common sense - Isn't it very obvious, a cure for cancer is found & it's not in news but it's being spread in form of messages on Facebook?
This is a very sensitive bit of information, by sharing it, you are increasing the hopes of many cancer patients and their relatives. not only that, you are giving unnecessary headache to the cancer institute receptionist.

c. The Rama Sethu (false) :
The highly controversial but also a highly false information that's being shared on Facebook. it's a picture message that says "1750000 (1.75 million) year old man made bridge between India and Srilanka built by Lord Rama"
I agree, the bridge does exist. there are satellite images of that particular stretch of Land between the two countries, It's also called "Adam's Bridge". however, the other information that it's 1.75 million years old is totally false.
Why ? the radio carbon dating and thermoluminescence dating done by Bharatidasan university and GSI(geological survey of India) determined that it ages about 4000 years(3). Secondly, the first ape (Homo erectus) evolved only about 1.2 million years ago, and Humans evolved from apes only about 400,000 years ago. so, It's definitely not man made.

Common sense - I've went to school, college and even have a masters degree, so I can only believe in facts, I have a completely different perspective about Ramayana and i cannot see this in a religious view, but there are a lot of people who share this based on their blind religious faith, which is a lot more powerful than common sense.

This are just 3 of the obvious examples from a whole lot. There are hundreds of fake, false and misleading information shared on Facebook, in fact there are websites, dedicated to tell the truth about this bad information.

2."Like/share this pic, Facebook will donate 1 cent for each share"
I am sure you might have come across 1 or 2 posts like this especially with extremely graphic pictures of babies or animals. this is not only a hoax, you might know Facebook has 950 Million users, they are definitely not going to donate money for every share, they will go bankrupt in hours. Also, the graphic pictures are very uncomfortable to see. Remember you are sharing in a public platform, not everyone has the same level of comfort as you do. many might find it gruesome and disgusting, be courteous to others.

3. Glorifying Celebrities (read actors):
This is quite a new trend, mainly focused in a smaller region of South India. However, it's a menace. There are tons of pictures and messages shared about certain actors and their so called achievements, and thrashes his competition with vulgar slang/imagery. It is fine, if you are a fan of certain actor and are showing your love for them, but why talk about trash the other actors? they both do the same job of entertaining people. if you don't like his movies, don't watch them or talk about how bad they were. but do not use vulgarity in portraying someone bad.

Same is true for Sports persons, if you are a fan of one athlete and you think he's better than the other.. show the statistics, records say he's better than him in this aspect. It's Sportive and gives added respect instead of slandering them based on a bias. it's not a mature thing to do.

So what can you share ?

There are millions of true, interesting and informative articles, blogs, videos and picture facts of extremely diverse fields available on the Internet. Articles from any legitimate news organizations like CNN, Reuters, TIME, Huffington posts are all fair game. they have a direct reference, which are genuine. even Wikipedia is fine as most articles do contain references.

Lot of people share Internet memes, Quotes, " if you had this in childhood, you were awesome" pics, movie clips, music videos etc... There's nothing wrong in sharing those pics or messages, as long as it's not hurting anyone. Of course, you cannot satisfy everyone, but at least think about your immediate surroundings before sharing stuff.
If you find any interesting facts of information, you want to share it, There are plenty of sites such as hoax slayer, hoaxorfact etc.. that do tell if the fact is true or fake.
If you are even lazier to do it, there's a simpler tool called 'Google'( I am sure you must have noticed it in the Internet).

So i request my fellow friends and Facebook users... To SHARE Responsibly.

Do you Agree with me? please share this blog, Promote responsible sharing. (you can even comment, nothing wrong in it)

Disagree with me ? Please leave a comment about your views.
I am a big fan of Comic book characters and superhero movies. I have watched pretty much all the superhero movies from 'Superman 1' to the latest 'The Dark Knight Rises' and for a long time wondered, if Indian cinema could come up with a good superhero movie, but it has been quite a disappointment.

About my title question, Why do i ask this question now ?

Well, there's yet another Indian superhero movie coming up in a short while. This time in Tamil called "Mugamoodi" (tamil for Mask) with Jeeva (spelled as Jiiva) as the lead. so i thought i'll talk about the Indian superheros and reasons for their miserable failure in the past. I thought i'll explain this in a comprehensive manner like a origin story ( you know with the intro, background, villains etc).

First of all, you may ask, why Indian cinema should even care about superheroes. It's simple. cos, we literally created the damn thing... with our epics, the larger than life heroes with actual super powers. The Pandavas are quite similar to the Avengers in some ways... Krishna = Thor, Bheema = Hulk, Arjuna = Hawkeye, Draupathi = black widow??
Ok jokes apart. we still are a culture who have a lot of fantasy, magic and out of world stuff in our literature over a 1000 years, so this superhero thing should be a piece of cake for our movie makers. isn't it? Yet, they Fail miserably.
Let me first introduce you to our Indigenous superheros..
1. Indian Superman - yes, to my wonder.. there was an Indian superman played by Puneet issar (same guy who played bheema in mahabharata tv series)
2. Toofan - Big B's first movie about an Indian superhero.
3. Shahenshah - Another Amitabh bachchan movie about a Batman style vigilante.
4. Ajooba - the Big B's third take on an Indian superhero. Even after his two failures, he really gave it a shot at it.
5. Shaktimaan - Indian Television's First and only Superhero.
6. Drona - It was now time for the Small B to take a stab at the superhero genre.
7. Krrish - Hrithik roshan's masked vigilante, was the Odd one out, why, cos it was a super hit.
8. Ra.One - SRK's incredibly horrible self proclaimed superhero movie (there are many reasons why it should not be one).

Although, many said Rajnikanth's Endhiran (robot) was a superhero blockbuster. i wouldn't agree. Endhiran was a science fiction, not a superhero movie.!

Out of 8 Superhero characters only 2 managed to get some name and fame. Shaktimaan was very famous at the time it aired, but it looks like a hilarious spoof of the superhero genre, if you watch it now. (I found it the same way as a kid as well, never liked him) but the other one, Krrish managed to score good points with a fantastic casting and a original character with some decent script(the movie was a bit ripped off from 'Paycheck').

I used to think, Indian cinema didnt have the money and technology to create good superhero movies, but after movies like Endhiran and Ra.One, which were far technologically advanced i knew things have changed, we have the resources and budget to produce a superhero blockbuster. so that's not the problem here. then what could possibly be stopping Indian Cinema from producing a decent superhero character?

There are 3 possible reasons, i would like to put forward.

1. Conviction:
In the Movie, 'The Avengers'. Agent Coulson says to Loki before his death that he'd never win because he lacked Conviction. This fits perfectly for our Indian superheroes. they lack conviction, a sense of purpose like their American counterparts. Batman fights against street crime since his parents were killed by it. Superman has lost his home planet, so he tries to save his foster home from being destroyed by evil, Spiderman realizes that 'with great power comes great responsibility' and fights crime than earning money with it in spite of being a poor college student.

Our Indian superheroes on the other hand, Lack it. the sense of purpose for becoming a greater power. Our superheroes merely seek revenge for their personal sufferings. Toofan takes revenge on his father's killers. Krisshh fights the bad guy cos his father was held hostage by him. Shahenshah is a Cop who cannot handle the responsibility of being a cop, yet fight crime in disguise and G.one is a Video game character (enough said).

Batman, Spiderman Iron man etc, get their Conviction from personal sufferings, but it turns into a larger purpose where as our Indegenous ones fail to convert the revenge into a larger purpose of saving the world.

2. Larger than Life Average Heroes:
Our Indian movies always portray a larger than life hero who can Fight without any prior learning experience, smash 10-15 baddies in a single punch, speak punch dialogues, which is a non violent way of killing bad guys or even make a Train behave like your pet puppy (this scene from a telugu movie is epic, if you haven't seen it yet, it's a shame; search "balakrishna train scene" in youtube and watch epic awesomeness)
Even the greatest superheroes can't do the things an average day to day life hero does in Indian movies. So when a average hero can do it in civilian clothes, why need a costume, fancy name and powers. that's just unnecessary expense rite?

3. Originality:
G.One (from Ra.One) is a video game character who's sole purpose is to protect a kid from evil villain.. It's 'Terminator 2' without the futuristic feel and Arnie's style. Toofan is basically batman someone who takes revenge on the people who kill his father. Shaktimaan is a complete ripoff of Superman except he's that not an alien. Heck, i dont even know what Drona's story is. it's that bad.
It's probably the main reason for the failures. Lack of a genuine script. The Ripoffs in the name of so called Inspirations are just ruining the essence of being a superhero. why can't they come up with a fresh script and origins instead of being a mere ripoff of the american comic book characters in a silly way.

It's not as hard as it seems to create an Indigenous superhero. we have a plethora of mythological characters, stories, and ideas, which could be adapted to make a bad ass superhero. yet, we fail to do so.

Why?
Lack of Creativity?
Laziness?
Movie Makers Addicted to ripping off from originals?

I don't know, I wonder if we can even get any justification for that from our film fraternity. I just hope at least Mysskin and Jiiva give us a Good Indian Superhero with the upcoming movie "Mugamoodi" !

Do you agree with my post? or have something else to say? either way, please leave your comments below !
met my college friends on two occasions. A hand full of them only could make it

parted ways from college; everyone is in a different walk of life now. No one
is really doing what we expected, we would achieve after college but it was
interesting to see that the same old friendship remained pretty fresh. And yes,
it's been five years and still people wouldn't stop talking about

yes, this is a small, humble tribute to the musical genius, isaigiani Ilayaraja. I know it's not something new. this man has die hard fans all over the world and has mesmerized millions of people all around the world. There are many sites and blogs that praise his work in music.

before going into the post, I'd like to say this. - I have not learnt any form of music or instrument. my view on music is only by the way, the music or song makes me feel at that moment. I have written this post based on such observations only. if you do not agree with any of my comments , please pardon me.

So I am going to present this post in form of different emotions i felt while listening to Raja sir's music and how i could relate to each one of them. most of the music, I've chosen are either BGM's or instrumentals, just to make a small point that when music is so powerful, lyrics is not even needed.

so here it is.

1. Happiness - The Background score from the Movie 'Johnny' starring Rajnikanth is the best to illustrate this emotion. the music is highly mesmerizing that it brings a smile on your face, irrespective of what your mood was at that time. it's a brilliant use of the classical western violin and piano. the tempo of the score increases and decreases in such smooth pattern that your mind also sways to it without control.

Listen to it below.

2. Celebration - The music i chose was the theme music from movie 'Punnagai Mannan', the music is performed with a feel of 80s Techno, but it brings out the mood perfectly. Especially, the last piece of the score, where the Violin takes over, it's magnificent. Some would say, this piece personifies love, yes, it does, but it's a celebration of love. I'd say, play this music when ever you feel like celebrating. it's worth it.
Listen to it

3. Passion - if you have to choose a song to play in the background while making love to someone, this would probably be on the very top. the music even comes in such a situation in the movie, 'Hey Ram'. the song is a beautiful soothing song, just listening to the piano music makes your mind relax and gives a pleasant feeling. the instrumental version of the song can be used as a meditation music or a piece of music to listen before sleep, it will give you a relaxed mind before a good sleep. such is the power of this masterpiece.

tit-bit : the movie's music was already composed by another music director, scenes were shot, later due to fall out between the director and music director, the songs had to be recomposed, Ilayaraja stepped in and composed a new set of songs without the need of the songs being re shot. he made a masterpiece to match the movie scenes that were shot already.. only Raja can do it.

4. Lust - I would not actually call it lust, but it's a bit between sensuality and Lust. you decide which way it falls. the song from the lesser known Rajni movie "Valli" has a very beautiful instrumental beginning, the music starts with a beautiful guitar solo, which drags you into the song and then binds you with the music to go along with swarnalatha's voice, you stay within the song's bounds as it lingers in your mind for a long time after. Ilayaraja is the only person in Indian cinema who knows to use the violin to it's best. listen to the violin piece in this song, it's smooth and used with accurate precision at various points of the song.

5.Sadness - there's a general notion that 'sadness' is the easiest to touch of human emotions, almost every human can relate themselves to some kind of sadness, but if done wrong, it will end up being a comedy. Ilayaraja has created one such masterpiece, which can affect people deeply with sadness. anyone who listens to this piece of music will have some sort of sad memory creep into their mind. the music affects our senses so sharply, that shedding tears for this music isn't a quality of faint hearts.

this music masterpiece is also a very good example of Ilayaraja's mastery with Violin. none of the Indian music greats have used violin as perfectly as this maestro.

6. Euphoria - This piece of music is another master piece with excellent use of the Violin, but in a completely different situation. the music here is full of excitement, ecstatic jumping bundle of joy. the pace of the violin in this situation gives a heart pumping tune, you can't just listen to this music without getting a little bit of adrenaline rush.

The Indian television media in recent times has become very
pathetic. They are focused only on making money in the easy and fast way. No preference
given to shows which could impart knowledge and provide a pleasant viewing experience. I went through a listing through some
regional and national TV channels to see what kind of good innovative programs
they offer and it was not at all surprising that almost entire line up was a spin off
of the American or European version of the same show. American idol is Indian
Idol, Who wants to be a millionaire is Kaun banega crorepathi, big brother is
big boss etc…

If national TV was like this, the regional language channels
are even worse. All the Suns, geminis , vijays.. all channels are so engrossed
in telecasting Mega serials with story lines about illicit relationships and
revenge within families. None of the serials have a positive outlook at all.

Where has the creativity gone? Why are there no genuinely
Indian made shows which are good, where are our creative minds... Why do we
have to wait for USA to make a innovative show and then copy it ?

There used to be some genuinely creative shows back in the
day. Everything got lost somewhere down the line.

I have been an avid foodie for my entire life and it's really surprising that i am writing my first post on food only now. I am a "Live to Eat" person, although for a long time, i looked like i could "Eat more to live". we can't really put a time stamp on how long we have been eating food, since it's the only way our body gets nutrition, but the variety of foods that we consume has evolved a lot over years. In fact, we first start consuming food directly to our stomach and later, start with our mouths.

so talking about evolution of food, I've had so much diversity in foods, from mother's milk as a tiny baby to the egg omelet i ate for breakfast today morning. there's a enormous variety of foods i have come across, I've even learnt to cook for myself (that's been about 8 years now !!), and enjoyed a lot of different cuisines back home and in USA. here are some of my food favorites, in order of the time they are eaten in a day.

Coffee and Milk go together best, when made with Indian coffee powder. All other coffee powders from places like Brazil, Colombia are good only as black coffee.(chicory does the trick)

During school and college days, when i had idli, dosa ready for breakfast, i used to skip it most times. but now, when you have to stick to a bread and omelet or pancakes, you end up craving for such good foods in the morning.

Pongal, is probably the best breakfast to have, closely followed by Dosa. esp. with sambar and coconut chutney.

The only thing i miss about attending Indian weddings, is the umpteen number of items on a enormous banana leaf.A normal hindu wedding, a complete vegetarian bliss has a list like this... pickle, sweet, avial, poriyal, applam, vadai, kootu, pulav, plain rice, sambar, kara-kulambu, rasam, curd( i skip it), payasam. A typical Indian christian marriage is a mixed combination and would have item list that goes like pickle, sweet, poriyal, karthrika kootu, thayir pachadi, appalam, dry chicken curry, lamb biryani, plain rice, chicken kulambu, payasam.A Muslim marriage is a complete meat fest with list like chicken drumstick, thayir pachadi chicken fry, chicken biryani, lamb biryani, plain rice, chicken kulambu, lamb gravy, lamb soup, and occasional sweet. (writing about all these dishes makes me drool, I want to attend a wedding somewhere soon).

Dhal/Sambar has a potent magic in it, you hate the food first when it's eaten in a routinely manner. but after a lot of meat for quite a long time, one day you have sambar. it feels like the greatest food ever.

Sea foods are hands down, the best of Non-Vegetarian items. best of sea foods is the Fish. a well made fish is excellent in any type of cuisine. best fish is the Vanjaram (not able to find it in USA till now, sad face) closely followed by salmon. Shrimps, prawns and scallops make the united 2nd place.

Sushi is probably my least preferred option of eating fish, but i had a rare occasion where i ate a lot of different types of sushi for almost 1.5 hours at a sushi bar.

Indo-Chinese food (Indian way of making Chinese food) is tastes much better than the actual Chinese food.

The best of American cuisine is the Steak. if you eat Beef, then you'd definitely agree. I've had the opportunity only to try the sirloin and T-bone Steak, but would like to try them all.

Mexican foods like burritos, tacos and chalupas have become a staple of my weekly foods, they are cheap to get and taste very good.

most of the times, i get confused between French and Italian cuisine. for some reason, i find both to be similar, when they are not. french cuisine has really fancy names, their sweet dishes seemed great, not the same with the savory. whereas Italian, has really good savory dishes. I hope you know about pizza and pasta.

I found Middle eastern cuisine to be the small brother of Indian cuisine with pretty similar taste and spices. some of the best Road side Diner foods are shwarma, gyros and kebabs.

Traditional Indian sweets never had Chocolate as one of their ingredients, i wonder how sweets would have been, if chocolate was introduced a lot earlier in India.

speaking of Indian sweets, each state has a unique variety of sweets, each and every single one tastes of heaven. my favorite is the Mysore pak (esp. hot, right of the cooking vessel)and gulab jamun.

Western Desserts are not so far behind, and heavily indulge on chocolate for me. cos, i hate strawberries(which is the predominant fruit in desserts here). Chocolate delicacies includes Cakes, puddings, donuts, ice cream, milk shakes etc...

Butterscotch is the only flavor of ice cream, i might choose if there's no chocolate flavor available.

A good meal is not complete without a drink. I've been a quite a aesthete of global drinks, the french wines, Russian vodka, Scottish whiskey, Mexican tequila and German beers. I am not a big fan of wine, but certainly can manage the other global commodities.

Ever had people saying stuff to you like, ‘you would have been perfect in a ” X” job, that’s a perfect profession for
your skills, interests and passion, why don’t you try to pursue that instead of
sitting in that dumb job of yours..!!’ I am sure most of you did come
across this type of people and their talks.

I am not saying they are being wrong to say those things, it
could be true that some of your innate skills may suit another career better than
the one you have now, but this kind of talk by certain people slams a thought
into your mind, whether you chose the right profession/ career, even if you
were feeling happy about your current job, you still wonder how it would be
with a different career.

I do not believe that world might end in 2012, but that doesn’t give me an excuse to think about what I might need to accomplish, given that after 1 year from today, I would not have a planet. Unless I am superman who escapes from krypton as a baby, I would have no home.

Just for fun on a serious note, I thought of some things I might want to accomplish in this 1 year of time and wanted to share it with all of you. Who knows some of you may be playing a part in this quest of mine. Ok so here it goes…

1.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Get in touch with all of my friends, whom I haven’t really been in contact or at least sort them out.

This one is straight out of the box, there’s almost 4 different phases of life I have been thru… school, college, USA, University, job. and had different set of friends in each of the phase. It’s come to a point where I get super confused relating to a friend. I met this school friend recently, he was talking of a lot of people from my 12th STD, and I had no clue who’s who just with names. Esp. some generic Indian names, I have a friend each in every phase. Although, some of the faces had really stuck in my memory like a crush or gorgeous looks, I couldn’t figure out what their name was. This is a good thing to start off, sort out friends thro face book, get in touch with some old friends, and know about what’s happened in their life in this long gap. Who knows at my age, many of them might be married with kids too.

2.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Stay away from Internet a.k.a Go outside and spend some time.

This one is tough, it’s horrendous actually. I don’t know how it’s like outside of USA, but here, Internet is like food, you can survive without it but barely. There are times, where you look it up online for outside weather instead of looking out the window. You can easily sit in a single place for a whole day and know, learn and do all the stuff in the world. Which I have done quite a lot in last 3 years. So this year, I want to go out do a lot of outdoor activities and spend less time on the Net and lesser time on facebook. It’s a tough deal but I hope I can pull it off.

3.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Move a bit toward the crazier side

I have always been a bit conservative in terms of enjoyment and mischief, my frequency to night clubs, parties, getting drunk shitfaced, sleeping around, smoking etc is very less, close to a finger count, till now. In short, I am not living on the edge. Well, I am responsible enough to know I might trip and fall off the edge some time, but supposedly that’s not cool enough. So I thought maybe this is the year to show off that I could also be a bit on the crazier side. I will try, but this one I can’t guarantee that I will succeed.

4.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Make an impact

I know for a fact that I have some talent, I am very resourceful, creative and a sharp intuitive learner who can create a big change. But I am just not applying it properly in my path of life and probably wasting my time. This year should be the year where I impact big, if not in a big level, at least the people around me, should know the value of me through my talents.

5.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Relationships, dating… etc…

This one is a lot tougher than any of the stuff on my list. Even staying away from the Internet could be a piece of cake compared to this. So why is it tough, you might ask, well... currently, there’s NO girl in my life, which’s even slightly tilted towards a romantic angle. Added to it, all of the ones I know are either dating, committed, engaged, married or have kids.

Meeting a new girl is even worse, cos with just a Hi, they immediately think that every single guy is the next in line to hit on them. But am still New here... you might ask why?

There’s only one reason. Friends…

Not just any Friend, but Friends who you can go out... spend time... basically hang out. I haven’t even made one friend like that here. Everyone I know here, I knew them pretty much before I came here.

So why have I not made friends? I don’t know the answer. Here’s a list of things anyone would normally do in a new place to get friends and their results with my experience.

1.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Friends from past or mutual friends (thro another friend): This is the best source for getting new friends, in a way, cos you already know someone or a friend through another friend.

2 of the 3 people I knew here moved out to elsewhere, when I came here. I did meet the third one but he’s busy with his own life. The Mutual friends I got through my past friends, well they have their own group of friends and social life etc... I see that on FB all the time. . It’s very hard to break into a new group, also I guess it would be little uncomfortable for them with a new person around, hence do not consider me I guess… (Depends on their flexibility and timings too). – TIMING FAIL

2.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Work Place Friends: all of the people I work with are family types. Because, I do not seem to find anyone like that. I tried going out to a bar/public event in OKTOBERFEST, alcohol plus public, seemed like a really good place to make new friends. Well I was partially wrong. I did make 3 new friends; unfortunately, they were college students from Michigan on visit here. So no scope on hang out again..! – PARTIAL FAIL

4.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Dating Sites: The modern way of making friends, dating sites. The other half, get reminded of me and Call me only when there’s something required of me. They call me multiple times in a day, talk for hours, until I am needed, and forget me once it’s done.

I realized that of all the friends, I have made in the past 4 years here in USA, there’s no one, who has at least visited me once, called me often without asking any questions or help or considered me as a part of their life and said, ‘Am their best friend’.

So tell me. How the F do you make new friends? I honestly don’t know, I have never come across such a problem. These are everyday language, used for only one purpose “the wait”

Every other day or night, you either wait for someone or make others wait for you. It happens all the time, waiting for someone definitely irritates anyone, well it’s not much of a disturbance when you make others wait (few exceptions here n there) but ultimately, waiting is a damn boring thing to do, its kills a lot of things, like patience, sanity and mood, but time always survives the kill and in turn taunts at us by moving at a very slow pace. The slowest of sloths will appear to be fast during the period of wait.

There are various degrees and situations of the wait. I have tried to categorize it into 6 types. There may be more to add to the taxonomy but am sure these are major cases.

I’ve also given them a degree of wait on a score of 5. This tells you the level of wait, a human soul can bear on a regular basis.

Without further adieu,

Here are real life situations of 'the wait'

1. The call

You would have definitely been in this situation at least a dozen times or more in your life. You might have experienced in a job interview, hospitals, banks, or even in an airport, where a system is followed. Here there’s no simply waiting, You give your most attention to the person on the radio or intercom; spend a little to a lot of minutes focused with sharp hearing sense that could beat a dog at that point of time. You wait and wait with sweat and tears not to miss the call of your name, number or a flight. Then your adrenaline kicks in, like it’s the end of the world and you run for it. Most times, it’s very clumsy and you tend to irritate fellow waiters who didn't get the call.

The time of wait in this situation is undefined, since it depends on your luck and sometimes logic. Like in job interviews, suppose your name starts with A, then its damn sweet and short wait, but then... if its somewhere in V, W.. Then it’s going to be a long day..! Luck favors when your flight or train arrives on time, you get a free teller at the bank etc...!

It’s definitely worth waiting on this one.

Degree of wait: 3/5

2. The girl

This is a lifetime full of experience for boys and men, the wait for women to get ready and during shopping. Each and every man would have experienced this wait many times (unless, you were an orphan and gay at same time). This type of wait is the most boring and quite painful wait, a man could experience in his lifetime. It’s a wait that you can never avoid or get out. Women, they take forever to get ready to go out and then if its shopping, it’s a whole days work to get one apparel. They make you wait, ask for your comments now and then, but never agree to what you say, even when it’s complimentary. Then choose something, which another person likes and demands for it.

This wait situation is unavoidable and undeniably the torturous wait for a man. But men can survive this by doing a bit of bird watching or little bit of shopping for them.

No luck or logic can change this, you got to be there for the lady, if you want her to be with you. It sometimes helps, if you are a free will who donates credit cards and is unlimitedly rich.

Not really the worth the wait.

Degree of wait: 2.5/5.

3. The help

This situation is likely to be the most dangerous one. It’s basically the wait for an emergency help. When you have met with an accident, held at gun point during a theft, or if your house is on fire etc... All these situations are a matter of life and death and every second is precious. this wait is definitely nerve wrecking and occasionally there's a loss, but definitely no gain, cos you are already in buried in shit before this wait situation occurs.

This wait situation is definitely not a frequent one and the experiences are a lifetime story moment. It’s a very anxious and exciting wait you have before emergency arrives.

There’s no way that you can escape this wait.

Degree of wait: 5/5

4. The digital

Have you ever waited on the phone call trying to call a customer care help line? Then you know what am talking about. The most modern of waits are of the digital world and it’s quite similar to 'the call' situation. A lot of technology was developed in communication for making it faster, easier and to provide minimal wait, but still this wait time can lead to a lot of anger management therapy. Emails, sms, IM, chats... all these digital/online forms of communication are causes for the digital wait.

Of course, all Internet users have experienced this... especially in good old days of dial up connection. you wait for 8 minutes for a web page to open up then sending an email would take another 15 minutes but even in this modern era of super fast speeds, things could get little complicated.. for example: when you are in chat with someone, you ask a question and they take forever to reply or they type n type but never send the msg ( happens a lot and chat bar shows " x is typing" ) and later send something irrelevant to the conversation, it’s definitely a reason to get pissed off for the unnecessary wait. Same goes with emails, sms.

It’s not worth the wait, unless it’s urgent.

Degree of wait: 1/5

5. The leak

I am not quite sure how this wait situation affects women, but men surely know what am talking about. Have you ever wanted to go urgent to take a nature's call, leak or plain ol' piss, and had to wait in line since someone else was in the restroom before you. That wait is almost equal to water boarding... cos when the going gets tough, the tough has to get going... else there can be a lot of physical pain and public embarrassment.

Definitely a situation where waiting is bad.

Degree of wait: 4.5/5

6. The Love

The topic about waiting is never complete without the wait for love. Since ancient times till near future times, the wait for love has been in the hearts for ages. It has been described in every form of media possible and still to date haunts the minds of millions. This wait is deadly, you express your love for someone or propose for a marriage, and then the time they take to decide, even if it’s seconds, that wait would kill you. Worst, when they take a whole truckload of time. The wait for love situation would be experienced by everyone in need of love. It’s the only wait which can go for an eternal time, without having to know the consequence and the deadliest of all waits, even though it actually kills you in only a few cases.

Hey its love, how can I ever say it’s not worth it, it’s totally, completely and 100% worth the wait.

Degree of wait: 5/5

I am sure everyone would have experienced at least one or all of these excruciating times of wait in your life. There’s always some kinda wait for every one of us.

Remember that ‘Time’ isn't punctual every time and there's no gain without a little pain. So the wait is definitely worth, to know the consequence.

LIFE, It’s like a murder mystery, you need to wait till the end to know the killer else it becomes boring.

If you have any funny, crazy or awkward wait moments in your life, please feel free to express it in the comments section below.

CHIBIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984930128166692053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418732389612965517.post-69018866149315368932010-09-24T00:08:00.003-04:002010-09-24T00:47:38.806-04:00ENDHIRAN - ROBOT - ROBOI probably might be the millionth person on Internet to write something about the hottest, most talked about movie at present... yes. Its Sun pictures kalanidhi maran presents Endhiran starring Superstar Rajnikanth, Aishwarya rai bachan and danny denzongpa, Music by A.R.Rahman and Directed by Shankar.

the movie is basically one of the few sci-fi movies in tamil or indian cinema industry as a whole. Its about a scientist who builds a robot to serve humanity, then improves the robot to feel emotions, which turns out to be bad, rest of the movie is usual hollywood type good vs evil fights in mega budget spectacularity shankar's movies usually have.

So we have all seen many Hollywood movies that showcase the entire world of robots, their goodness and evil malfunctions. what's special about this Endhiran. well, Romance of a robot with human. thats what Indian movies can do differently.. have a duet song for the robot and make it run around trees and fight for the heroine, Indian Masala as you may call it. Not only that, Its the superstar who's done the lead role, A actor of 60 yrs age, still he's got it in him to perform a younger role that too of a robot and scientist, double action if you call it. I guess no one of his age, performs such roles now. (maybe except for stallone and willis in expendables )

The Movie has created a lot of hype in India, mainly due to the marketing strategies of Sun Pictures, who happen to sell even worst movies like Sura to be a big hit. so if endhiran manages to be a decent entertainer, its good enough for it to make Hell lot of money. Imagine, what could happen if the movie was really good. they have already started making money buy selling tickets even for the screening of the movie's theatrical trailer. Rajni's last movie with shankar, Sivaji grossed about Rs.600 crores worldwide, this could very well get them twice or thrice the amount of money than the previous outing.

This week, the Movie has seemed to be creating a lot of hype here in USA too. HBO films have distributed the movie in USA and tickets in all major cities have sold out for the first day inspite of a ticket being priced at $30. which is something really big. I guess Rajni films are meant to be seen everywhere on first day first show, no matter how much the tickets cost.

Even I plan to watch the movie by first day if possible, if not at least by first weekend, Can't Miss a Rajni movie. I've been a big fan of the superstar, since the time in my mom's womb.

Waiting for Endhiran.. Lets see..! definitely will write a review about it soon.CHIBIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984930128166692053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418732389612965517.post-29105676434976701742010-08-31T21:58:00.002-04:002010-08-31T21:59:58.887-04:00Being Left Handed !“Wow, are you a left hander..?" It was an Unique attention, I received from my classmates and fellow students in school, not only there but also at marriages, social gatherings, and any place I used my hand, I got this attention of being unique and popular, I liked it a lot because in India, being a left handed person is very rare. It’s not very often that you see someone using the other hand.

I have enjoyed the attention for the sake of being left hander, even though it was genetics which decided this thing and it’s not even a kind of talent that you could be proud about, but in India, being left handed is a cool thing, since people hardly see anyone in day to day life, most people get to see left handed people only on TV esp. only in cricket and other sports. In fact, in my 21 years of my life in Chennai, I came across just 5 left handed people other than me, 3 guys and 2 girls. I noticed that left handed girls are a rare species.

The attention is sometimes not so good; many used to feel my use of the hand to be awkward, because they couldn't understand the concept of being left handed. many of my friends had lot of questions and doubts regarding use of the left hand, some were logical, many were stupid... some of the usual questions were " if you use this left hand for eating, which hand do you use for toilet purpose?" (Because in India, left hand is used by right hander’s to wash after toilet), it was a very awkward question to answer, but my answer to all the questions was the same “your right hand is my left and vice versa”.

when it comes to elders, esp. the old ones, whenever they see me eating using my left hand, they give me a nasty expression as if I was eating shit and advised me to use my right hand, after hearing a lot of comments like this, I literally avoided going to marriages till I was 15, if it was an important function and I had to go, my mom used to carry a spoon for me, so that I can eat with a spoon, and south Indian marriages had to have banana leaf instead of plates and eating with a spoon on a banana leaf, imagine it.

My kindergarten teachers took the left handedness to the next step and like it was an evil thing, they tried to do a kind of exorcism by trying to make me change my writing hand to right hand and as a result of forced training, my brain got little jammed in the neurons and I couldn't talk for a few weeks, then my parents took me to the doctors, did some speech therapy and made me alright back again, but I had a little bit of a stuttering problem for quite some time as a aftermath.

It’s also a hard thing with day to day life, because it’s a right handed world out there. My Teachers at school used to assign a desk especially for me, as I could only sit on the extreme left corner, so that I wouldn’t bump into right handers while writing. I had to eat with spoon, because people thought it was gross to eat with left hand. It was an easy task for people to copy from my exam paper as I used to write in an odd position which is easily visible. The use of basic everyday stuffs like scissors, ruler and computer mouse was a tough task and now in USA, driving a car seems to be a little rough task for me since I have to change gears with my right hand.

Sometimes I have found it difficult and thought left handedness was a curse, since my right brain is pretty dominant because of left handedness, I am not pretty good at logical or rational subjects, so my math was very bad. History, geography, chemistry and biology were my best subjects in high school, since they are the ones you can actually think and understand in pictures, which the right brain does best. I did top my classes in those subjects but interestingly, I got fond of physics too during my 12th board and managed to top it, physics was the only rational exception, I’ve had but it was All in vain as Math got me down every time. Somehow me n math don’t get along very well... Neither is it good with its teachers.

Intuition is a very important function of the right brain, and I am strong in it. My intuitions are 99% correct and I believe in them completely, although occasionally I do get let down by my intuitions, also It is easy to say that I am also a big risk taker because of my dominant right brain.

In recent years, I noticed that the dominance of my right brain has increased too much and it’s getting to a stage where it’s more like a master-slave situation. My left side of the body is much more strong and dominant and my right side is totally uncoordinated. I realized that my right side is unbalanced and does not cooperate with the body. My right hand’s reflexes are slower than the left and right leg doesn’t coordinate well. For example, when catching a cricket ball, my right hand delays in reflex, hence I miss the catch and while playing badminton, my right leg doesn’t move as fast as my left leg, so I trip over sometimes while moving sideways. It is a simple defect I noticed, later I found more instances where my right hand wasn’t in my total control.

Now, I am trying to see if I can balance out my two sides of the body. It’s a small experiment I am trying to see, if I can possibly make myself get full control of my right side of the body, which in turn might help tune my left brain to make me more rational and intelligent. I’d give details about the progress of my experiment in coming posts. Let’s see if it works..!

.CHIBIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984930128166692053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418732389612965517.post-69894633608714134572010-07-05T00:29:00.004-04:002010-07-20T21:59:00.260-04:00Sun and the blue sea.During my 40 day vacation in Chennai. There were a lot of beautiful and interesting sights and places visited, the most beautiful place were the beaches... Marina and Bessy, the usual and Tiruvanmyur occasionally. the beaches are always close to my heart, its the only place in the whole world, where peace hits you as soon as your feet touch the sands, the cool breeze and the melodious waves just make you feel so comfortable.

So what's even cooler than that... well, its to see the sunrise in the beach, the Majestic hot Sun rising out of the Cold Blue sea, makes me want to compare it to a hot girl rising out of the sea ( like in most movies!), it was like a celestial wonder, even though it occurs everyday that's the only time i got to see this beauty. I got to see this sight and then came along, some added sound and light effects provided by the lightening and thunder with dark black clouds filling up the sky like someone had tipped over a bottle of ink, it was like an end credits to a movie. the lightening bolts were like flashes of a camera which the gods used to take pictures of the earth, the Flash of bright red light against the dark black clouds was a breathtaking richness in color. Thunders are a separate class of sounds, they bring out the fear in you. the loud sound makes your body shiver for a moment, even if you do not fear the thunders, admiring the sunrise and lightening did i realize, there was a storm coming to Chennai... 'laila' was her beautiful name.

I never knew that a storm was approaching, when i had set out early morning to the beach for sunrise sight but it was also a blessing, because i got to get drenched in the mad rain that followed the thunders, it was heavenly with the smell of sand with the first drops of rain gets you into a bliss with nature that you want more of it, so drenching in the rains gets you the most of it. Before the rains, there was a period of heavy gust of winds storming through the beach, carrying as much sand as it could into the air. It was not as much as a sand storm in a desert, but a good prelude to the heavy rain. I got a complete sand bath before i had the rain shower that cleansed me thoroughly, that's when i felt, no matter if you drink it or get drenched in it, water is the elixir of life.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dInZJFpA3xg/TEZTf6p0opI/AAAAAAAADHc/H6lgp5RhcZU/s320/2010-06-09+05.35.44.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496172203037991570" />
Image 1 - the blue skyline and the beach road just a few seconds after sunrise.

I felt every bit of nature in that single moment, a beautiful sunrise, Cool blue sea, gentle breeze followed by gusts of wind, lightening, thunder and the romantic rains. Maybe next time, I'll have all the 3 things plus my love to make the moment complete.

Unless of course a Tsunami strikes with it !CHIBIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984930128166692053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418732389612965517.post-39193227916413648742010-06-27T20:00:00.000-04:002010-06-27T20:30:02.620-04:00New York – London – Kuwait – Chennai

I travelled about 18 hours in flight from New York to Chennai and back to New York in this past one month. Here are the few interesting things I experienced and observed in the flights and airports.

1.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> The JFK international airport is huge and is an architectural masterpiece by the Americans. The terminals are built with less materials and efficient energy saving methods are used. Lots of sunlight and air circulation but the whole complex is a mere skeleton of metal, with glass and fiber.

2.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> The restrooms in JFK airport - a cool innovation with the men’s room. The men’s room urinals have a black spot on them; the spot is a picture of a fly which seems like a real fly is sitting on the urinal. So men try to target the fly to shoo it away from the place. It’s a natural instinct for men. It’s a very innovative idea as it prevents spillage of urine outside the urinal and also saves water.

3.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Yes, this is a power driven world, I saw people searching for power in the terminals of the airport. Yes, by power I mean electricity. There were no plug points to be seen anywhere on the seating areas and people did everything to find one and charge their phones or laptops. A girl decided to sit on the floor right next to a janitor’s closet to charge her laptop as it had a power point next to it. A man had his laptop charging from a cell phone charging point from a distance away and had many people almost trip over by his charger wire. I am no exception as I stood with my phone in the cell phone charging point.

4.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> American vs. British English. Of course, there’s an ocean of difference between the two accents, but I observed the airport staff’s speaking their respective accents and found Americans to be super laidback and cool while the British were majestic and strict. Just by their accented English, the British officials looked commanding and little bit scary.

5.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Arab sheikh! My flight from London to Kuwait had this interesting incident. An Arab sheikh and his wife had boarded the plane in London; they were in their traditional costumes and did not speak English. They sat in the seat in front of us, but funny thing was it was another couple’s seats. No matter what the airhostess would explain, the sheikh never budged to get up from that seat and move to his own. It even lead to the Command officer from airport to come and confront him and threatened him to be debarked, but all in vain. Sheikh did not shake for anything.

6.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> Tamil flight! The flight from Kuwait to Chennai had this awesomeness to it. Almost every passenger on the flight was a tamilian. Even the air stewards spoke Tamil, never did I imagine I would see such a sight, it bought me into Chennai even before my flight took off from Kuwait.

7.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> My return flight was at 5.50 am morning. Pretty odd time since I had to reach airport at 3am. The wait at the gate was very boring, so I started messaging all my friends. Luckily one was awake at 4 am and helped me out of boredom by talking to me for a long time. Thanks to that Friend.

8.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> there was a very interesting coincidence in the flight, in the 3 seats of my row, the person sitting on my right was named shiba, and the person on my left was named shibu, with me being Chibi. Our names differed just by a letter pronunciation. Oddly interesting.

9.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> American kids and Indian kids. There were lots of kids in my flight from Kuwait to New York via London, for some reason, kids don’t sleep at all in flights. I had a couple of American kids before me and an Indian kid behind my seat. Interesting thing I observed was the American kid was like a tamed and trained dog, did his parents said and was really obedient and mostly silent; the Indian kid was notoriously loud and kept talking like there was a competition going on. During the flight taxi in London, the American parent kept educating their kid about the aircrafts, different airlines, their tail pics, how plane takes off n stuff... while the kid listened. On the other hand, the Indian kid had tons of questions to her dad, she kept asking him, how does plane fly, why can’t cars fly, why is the tire of plane so small, why does it have a tail, why is the driver of plane called a pilot instead of plane driver. Etc… the dad didn’t have the patience or the time to answer his little one as she fired a lot of questions. So which of the kids is Smarter? Indian or American?

10.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> The Football world cup fever is in the air too. I heard pilot announcements made updating the ongoing USA- Ghana game during the flight. Actors and Actresses being hailed as equals to gods and a powerful source of information and entertainment, sometimes can bring out social changes too. Indian Cinema has been ridiculously big in the world for a long time now. to be specific, Tamil Cinema has been close to my heart for years but recently it has been moving farther away.

I watched two extremely contrasting movies in recent times. Dasavathram for third time and Sura for first time. I was happy to watch the earlier but why did i see the latter. the essence of movie making is the extremities in both these movies, One at the highest end and other at the lowest possible end. Dasavatharam was basically one man's work, the genius Kamal Haasan. The amount of research put into creating a story which is very complicated and making an apt screenplay which is simple and understandable for a layman is marvellous. He has also performed and dubbed in the movie for 10 different characters which have totally different looks and characteristics.

the concept of chaos theory was neatly explained in the movie along with so many social messages and beautiful dialogues with plenty of wit and inner meanings which make it a good topic for a great discussion. The first scene of the movie of the 12Th century takes your breath away. the movie was a indeed a good watch.

On the other hand, Sura was Horrible, crappy, and plain boring. It was supposed to be vijay's 50Th movie, aren't milestone movies supposed to be a very good one ? i thought so but this one looked like one which is not going to get vijay any more milestones rather some big grindstones on his head. The movie had Nothing in it, century old story, very boring screenplay, plain action and dubbed music, even vadivelu's comedy was stale. I am not talking more about the movie, makes me feel upset for watching such a disaster.

I have a lot of questions in my mind though... Didn't this director see any movie or Tamil movie before ? didn't anyone see the movie before it got released ? not even a single soul cried out loud that it was a screw up ? what about the producers are they printing money to spend on filth called movies?

then the hero... Vijay. NO way is he going to become the next superstar with these kind of movies, if he's going at this rate churning out things down his back. thinking about being a hero, does he even listen to the story before taking up a movie? does he resent for having given pathetic flops? and my god save 3 idiots remake from Vijay. I don't want to see him disgrace that masterpiece.

I don't want every movie to be a perfect masterpiece like dasavatharam, but a movie is to provide entertainment, it should be decent enough to deliver it. If the Director had ripped off a good action movie from hollywood and had it remade scene by scene like photocopying that would have been least justice instead of the Sura he's given.

Luckily, there are stalwarts like kamal, manirathnam and good directors like bala, murugadoss, shankar and few others who give good movies once in a while. else, Tamil cinema is doomed to become like a Sura puttu (shark snack).
CHIBIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984930128166692053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418732389612965517.post-43636075246720634592010-05-02T20:28:00.001-04:002010-05-02T21:16:28.115-04:00My experiment with sleep !Sleep is a very important activity you do every other night. many do it during the day too. Its one thing which you can actually enjoy doing while you are bored. bored of your mind, have a good sleep, its a good remedy for boredom. Lately, i had experienced this weakness in me. I couldn't sleep well. I was having sleep, but very short ones and it took me ages to get some sleep. the reasons were quite obvious. I was definitely not bored and to make things worse, a lot of thoughts and worries, some unnecessary ones too.

This lack of sleep continued for about a week, i had been getting sleep only for about 2-3 hrs every night and it continued the same way for a week. This was when i decided to take actions. I am a person who sleeps for 8-9 hrs straight normally. Missing a lot of time in sleep made me worry. so i started some experiments to make me sleep better.

First, I thought Tiredness may cause sleep. so I decided to get as Tired as possible. I walked a lot, worked a lot and even went to gym and played till i dropped ( literally !!). I got myself so tired that i was lazy to cook stuff for dinner but hunger could cause sleep problems, so i ate my quota of food. then, my experiment failed for 3 days continuously. even though i was very tired and having bit of cramps in my body, i wasn't sleeping well. Interestingly, my sleeplessness had increased in time rather than a decrease i expected.

My Roomie suggested that i sleep early, considering that i go to sleep at 12 and do not get sleep till 4 am, if i had slept at 9 or 10 pm, i may get sleep sooner by 1 am at least. So i decided to try it out. I went to sleep at 10.30 pm. It didn't work out well, since it just extended my wake time on bed by an extra 2 hours. so my second experiment also failed.

I was getting little bit frustrated about this sleeplessness, and it was starting to show up on my day to day works. so I had another experiment underway, I found that my friend who had severe cold was taking a cold tablet, which had severe Sedative effect that he slept for hours together uncontrollably. So this struck me an idea to try taking that same tablet and see if i can sleep well ( preferably uncontrolled) and also it was a very good alternative to sleeping pills and have no side effects ( since sleep was the side effect ). so during the night, before sleep i took one tablet and went to sleep ( that's what i thought) but didn't sleep, i was lying on bed, turning and twisting in all directions, changing positions, waiting for the drug to take effect, but all it gave me was a dizzy feeling that was close to sleep but not the actual one. so i got up in the middle of night to take another pill, still no effect till morning 5 am then i did sleep for a shocking 2 hours, then woke up at 7 am. This got into my nerves too much that i let out my frustration on a unusual spot - Facebook (that was a very bad idea, looking at the responses i got from people).

By now it was about 10 days into sleeplessness. I was turning into a Insomniac as days progressed. I was really worried, because even with a really bad time in my life, i never had a problem with this sleep. So it made me think more about why this was happening to me now. When i had not many problems and when i happened to have found a way to tackle some of my problems at least.

An Idea then Flashed in my mind, I don't know if it was a brilliant one, but it changed things. It was an epiphany while looking at a Facebook status. which said " if u can't beat them, better join them." So i realised, when i was trying to get sleep, i was actually trying to beat insomnia. I was forcing myself to do something my mind was not intending to do. so I did my fourth experiment, I spent my whole Friday night without sleep. I planned not to sleep the entire night and the whole next day. I set my mind that i would not try to sleep. keep doing some work or pass time but not sleep. so best way to avoid sleep is to keep yourself busy. Best way to do it was work. hence i spent the entire night in my lab working on an experiment. It takes about 3 hrs for a single person to perform the experiment on their own, so it ate up most of my night time, then i watched a movie a really funny one " The Hangover". By the end of the movie, it was about 5.00 am, I was starting to feel little sleepy.

So another way to avoid sleep is to pump up your adrenaline. best way to do it, with just your laptop in front of you was to watch something exciting. It was a tough choice between Action and Horror. I went with Horror, I watched "Hostel" again for a second time, That was one movie i had decided not to watch ever again ever in my life time. so it kept me grossed and engrossed in it till 6.00 am, then i decided to screw it and go outside, as it was sunrise. I had my camera with me, so walked around the campus took some pictures (check out my Facebook page) which came out really well. It was my second time in 2 yrs that i saw the Sunrise.

Coming back to the experiment, I successfully avoided sleep on Friday night, and continued this the following Saturday. I had plenty on hand to make myself comfortably busy. Cricket match, Cooking, eating, A evening drive in a friends car and some phone conversations. the Saturday night was ridiculously awesome. I just remember me, lying down on my bed to relax myself as my roomie was asking something to me, after that it was all sleep. I sleep for 11 hrs continuously, It was a very deep sleep that there weren't any dreams. Finally my experiment turned out to be a success. I finally achieved a proper sleep for a night against my insomnia and i hope it continues for good.
CHIBIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984930128166692053noreply@blogger.com1
